I edit picture book manuscripts and dummies.
Although I'd edited picture books throughout my career, researching current and classic picture books to prepare to teach aspiring authors and illustrators gave me a fresh perspective.
Studying this versatile format expanded my appreciation of a well-paced and brilliantly illustrated picture book, as did teaching "Creating the Picture Book" at Pratt/Manhattan and "Picture Book Essentials" for the Scarsdale Adult School with author-illustrator Steve Henry.
I take you through the first revision and generally charge on a sliding scale, depending on what you are looking for. I generally charge $300 to edit a picture book manuscript, suggest revisions, and read and comment on the revision. I review the text and illustrations, making editorial suggestions on the text and layout, and reviewing and commenting on the revision for $600.

Creating this illustration was a wonderful experience. I found myself reconnecting with books from throughout my career, including the first, Fiona's Bee.
It got a starred Kirkus review and made me feel that I had it made.
